Note for Parents/Guardians:

These are a few phrases that may be of use. Please use these phrases as often as possible with your child. It will help your child hear Gaeilge/Irish in real situations around the home and will make learning and speaking Gaeilge/Irish much more enjoyable and real for them.

  • Go raibh maith agat – Thank you
  • Fáilte romhat – You’re welcome
  • Ar mhaith leat…. – Would you like….
  • Ba mhaith liom….. – I would like….
  • Níor mhaith liom…. – I wouldn’t like….
  • Is maith liom…. – I like….
  • Is breá liom…. – I love….
  • Is fearr liom… – I prefer….

Sa Bhaile – At Home

  • Glan an bord. – Clean the table.
  • Glan do sheomra – Clean your room.
  • Faigh an folúsghlantóir – Get the vacuum cleaner
  • Maith thú! – Well done!
  • Déan deifir/Brostaigh ort! – Hurry up!
  • Cé leis é seo? – Who owns this?

Ag am dinnéir – At dinner time

  • Ar scuab tú d’fhiacla? – Did you brush your teeth?
  • An bhfuil gach rud réidh i gcomhair amárach? – Is everything ready for tomorrow?
  • Tá sé in am duit dul a luí. – It’s time for you to go to bed.
  • Codladh sámh. – Sleep well.
